Early Life: Susan Wojcicki was born in Santa Clara County, California in July 1968. Wojcicki graduated from Harvard University with honors and then received her masters of science from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and her Master’s in Business Administration from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
In 1998, Susan owned a home in Menlo Park, California. In September 1998, to earn extra income, she decided to rent her garage out to two PhD students who needed space to manager their newly-launched web business. Those students were Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Their company was Google.
In 1999 Wojcicki became the 16th employee of Google when she was hired to be the company’s first marketing manager. Shepreviously worked at Intel and Bain & Company. She advanced to become senior vice president of Advertising & Commerce at Google and helped developed AdSense.
Wojcicki handled Google’s acquisitions of YouTube and DoubleClick and became the Senior Vice President of YouTube before becoming the CEO in 2014. She has been named the most important person in advertising and the most important Googler you’ve never heard of. Wojcicki was ranked #16 on Forbes Magazine’s List of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women in 2011 and #12 in 2014. Wojcicki was ranked #46 on the inaugural Forbes list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women in 2015.
Personal Life: Susan has been married to Dennis Troper since 1998. They have five children together. Susan’s sister Anne Wojcicki is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of genetics company 23andMe. Anne was married to Google co-founder Sergey Brin from 2007 – 2015.
