Blake Pieroni is an American professional swimmer who specializes in freestyle events and picked up his first NCAA medal in his junior year at the meet.
Pieroni took home two gold medals as part of the 4 x 100 m and 4 x 100 mm mixed freestyle teams at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. He also won a bronze medal inside the freestyle team of 4 x 200 m. He set the American and US Open records in the 200-yard freestyle in 2018 at the NCAA championships with a time of 1:29.63, making him the first swimmer to crack 1:30.
The record was smashed by Townley Haas two days later. As part of the men’s relay team, Pieroni returned home with three gold medals at the 2018 World Championships in Hangzhou, China, contested in a short course (25 m) pool, having won the 200 m freestyle as well as 4 x 100 m freestyle and medley events.
As part of the men’s and mixed freestyle teams, Pieroni won two gold medals and a bronze medal at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest: gold in 4 x 100 m freestyle, gold in 4 x 100 m freestyle combined with bronze in 4 x 200 m freestyle. Pieroni won two silver and one bronze medals at the 2016 World Championships in Windsor, Ont., with the men’s relay team: silver in 4 x 50 m freestyle; silver in 4 x 200 m freestyle; and bronze in 4 x 100 m freestyle.
At the U.S. Olympic Trials, he qualified as a 41100-meter freestyle relay swimmer for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He swam in the heats on the third leg with a split time of 48.39 and the team went on to win the gold medal. In 2013 Pieroni took the bronze in the 4 x 200 m freestyle with the men’s relay team at the World Junior Championships in Dubai.

Pieroni made his international debut as a member of the 800-meter freestyle relay at the 2013 World Junior Championships, where he won a bronze. He took 16th place in the 200-meter freestyle as well. He was back in the stars and stripes jersey a year later, this time at the Pan Pacific Junior Championships. Pieroni found himself a regular on the podium with some experience already under his belt.
