Hoy, MBE (born 23 March 1976) is a Scottish former track cyclist who competed for Great Britain in the Olympics and World Championships, as well as for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games. He is a member of the Royal British Legion. Hoy has won eleven world championships and six Olympic gold medals in his career. Hoy is the most decorated Olympic cyclist of all time, having won a total of seven medals, six gold and one silver, in the Games in Beijing in 2008.
Having won three gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Hoy has gone on to become the most successful Olympian in Scottish history, the first British athlete to win three gold medals in a single Olympic Games since Henry Taylor in 1908, and the most successful Olympic cyclist in history. Following his addition of two gold medals (in the keirin and the team sprint) at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Hoy now has more Olympic gold medals (six) and overall medals (seven, which he shares with fellow cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins) than any other British athlete, including Sir Bradley.
