Pierce Brendan Brosnan OBE is a film producer and actor from Ireland. Pierce Brosnan was the fifth actor to play secret agent James Bond in the Bond film series.
He appeared in four films (GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day) and numerous video games from 1995 to 2002.
Why did Pierce Brosnan quit as James Bond?
During an interview for the book Some Kind of Hero: The Remarkable Story of the James Bond Films, Brosnan told writers Matthew Field and Ajay Chowdhury that leaving the franchise was not his decision.
He recalled being in the Bahamas working on After the Sunset when he was told that “negotiations had stalled” and that the producers weren’t “certain what they wanted to do.”
“‘We’re so sorry,’ Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson said on the phone. ‘You were a great James Bond,’ Michael said, despite her tears. ‘Thank you so much,’ I replied. Goodbye.’
Instead of announcing his dismissal, Brosnan chose to be the gentleman of the situation, claiming that he was leaving the role of his own free will.
