Jay Sankey is a close-up magician and magic effect designer from Canada. Since the mid-1980s, he has been performing on stage. Sankey’s card was performed in a balloon effect by David Copperfield. He is also a stand-up comedian, and in 1999 he published Zen and the Art of Stand-Up Comedy, a book on the art of stand-up comedy. He is most renowned, though, for the many magical effects he has written to aid magicians in their development. His “Revolutionary Coin Magic” and “Revolutionary Card Magic” DVDs are among his most well-known works. Sankey appears in Spellz, a TVO Kids show he co-hosts with Bridget Hall and which David Peck co-produces. Jay placed third in Edd Withers’ The
Magic Woods Awards for Best Book: Beyond Secrets in 2007. He’s written a number of books on comedy and magic (see below), as well as producing and appearing in a number of instructional films for magicians and other stage performers. Sankey stated in 2009 that Andi Gladwin and Joshua Jay were working on a trilogy of volumes including his entire writings. The Definitive Sankey volumes 1-3 were published in 2012 in two formats: a normal edition with three books and a single DVD, and a deluxe edition with an additional DVD and Jay’s signature. Jay, his wife Lisa, and their two children Mason and Madelaine reside in Toronto.
