At the time of his birth, the Mitsotakis family had been put under house arrest by the Greek military junta that had claimed his dad persona non grata and imprisoned him on the night of the coup.

In 1968, the family fled to Turkey with the help of the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs İhsan Sabri Çağlayangil. During that time, Mitsotakis was just six months old.

After a while, the family moved from Turkey to Paris and waited until 1974 to come back to Greece after democracy had been restored.

Kyriaskos Mitsotakis was born to his parents Konstantinos and Marika Mitsotakis. His dad, Konstantinos, was also a Greek politician who worked as the Prime Minister of Greece from 1990 to 1993.

Likewise, Konstantinos took many roles and served in various government departments.
From May 10, 1978, to May 10, 1980, he was the Minister of Coordination. Also, he was the Minister of the Aegean from 1991 to 1993.

From April 14, 1992, to August 7, 1992, he worked as the Foreign Affairs Minister .
Apart from that, Kyriaskos’ mom, Marika, was regarded as a prominent political voice with the New Democracy political party.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis Father

On the other hand, the Mitsotakis family had another tragic moment when Konstantinos passed away on May 29, 2017, at the age of 98. Following his passing, four days of national mourning were declared.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis has three siblings: Dora Bakoyannis, Alexandra Mitsotakis, and Katerina Mitsotaki. Furthermore, his siblings are also engaged in the political field.

Dora is a well-known politician associated with the New Democracy party and was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece between 2006 and 2009.

From January 1, 2003, to February 14, 2006, she was the Mayor of Athens.

Likewise, she worked as the Minister for Culture. On the other side, Kyriakos’ other sister Alexandra is an activist and social entrepreneur.

In 2009, Alexandra became president of the Greek Cultural Centre in Paris.

Meanwhile, she is married to a French lawyer with whom she has four kids and nine grandchildren. The Mitsotakis siblings have a close relationship with each other.
