Richard Belzer Children: Did Richard Belzer Have Kids?

Richard Jay Belzer was a stand-up comedian, author, and actor from the United States. Belzer was expelled from Dean College, then known as Dean Junior College, in Franklin, Massachusetts. Belzer worked in sales and as a census taker, among other things.

Belzer was the Saturday Night Live audience warm-up comedian and appeared three times on the show between 1975 and 1980. Belzer also opened for musician Warren Zevon on his tour in support of his album Excitable Boy.

Belzer went on to star in the Baltimore-based Homicide: Life on the Street (1993-1999) and the New York-based Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999-2013), both as police detective John Munch. According to Barry Levinson, Executive Producer of Homicide, Belzer was a “lousy actor” in the audition when he read lines from the script for “Gone for Goode,” the series’ first episode. Levinson instructed Belzer to reread and practice the material before reading it again. Levinson stated in his second reading that Belzer was “still terrible,” but that the actor eventually found confidence in his performance.
